Along with delicious peaches from the Durrs, our bakers prepared fresh peach cobblers, peach pies and various peach pastries. Executive Chef / Owner of Culinary Experience prepared a delicious peach dessert to share with our happy shoppers.
It was - Grilled Summer Peaches with Vanilla Brown Sugar Topping

Grilled Peaches
4 peach halves / not too ripe
1 tbsp vegetable oil
2 tsp granulated sugar

1. In bowl toss peach halves with oil and sugar.
2. Preheat grill on medium high heat and place peaches cut-side down. Wait about 45 seconds, then do a quarter turn, leaving peaches down on the cut side for about 30 seconds (that will give those fancy grill marks).
3. Remove from heat.

Vanilla Brown Sugar Topping
3/4 cup vanilla wafers crushed
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp butter
1 tbsp brown sugar
2 tsp orange juice
2 tsp granulated sugar

1. In small sauce pan, melt butter
2. Add extract, sugar and orange juice
3. Let cook on low heat until all the sugar dissolves.
4. In bowl, place the crusted wafers . This Saturday looks like another great, and possibly a very hot day. We're lucky that it's always cool in the vendors' barn.

Briar Island will be at the market on Saturday with their blueberries. But that may be the last of the sweet, delicious fruit until next year. Tips below for freezing them.

August 3rd is National Watermelon Day and we are celebrating it at the market. Many vendors will be selling watermelons, while some will be giving you samples to enjoy - including Chef Tim Witcher. He will be preparing Fresh Watermelon and Mozzarella Salad for you to sample.

Watermelons.....did you know?

*They are more than 90% water.
*They are part of the gourd family.
*In ancient times, travelers used
them as a source of transportable water
*Their seeds (like pumpkin seeds)
can be roasted and eaten.
*Some people use the rind for making
preserves, pickles or relish.

*That makes the whole watermelon edible!

Tips for freezing Blueberries

High in antioxidents, blueberries are considered a super fruit. In order to reap the health benefits of these tasty little berries all year, while taking advantage of seasonal prices, freezing is an easy way to preserve them.
1. Rinse berries in collander and remove any stems, stray leaves or wildlife.
2. Pat dry and arrange berries in a single layer on baking sheet that will fit flat in a freezer. (I suggest placing a clean, dry dish towel on bottom of tray so berries won't stick.
3. Place tray flat in freezer, so berries don't roll or touch one another. You may stack trays, as long as there's enough space for cold air to move through. Wait about 4 hours, to be sure all berries are frozen through.
4. Once berries are frozen solid, choose containers to keep them in . Many people prefer plastic freezer bags, but I like glass.
***If you use bags, you can use a straw to suck out excess air beore completely sealing, to help prevent freezer burn.
***If you use glass, do not attempt to thaw contents by placing containers in hot water. It may break and harm you.

Blueberries are small and they thaw quickly, so for most recipes, there is no need to thaw them before use. Because they were frozen before placing in larger containers, any berries that are stuck together should be very easy to nudge apart. I usually just shake the jar gently before opening.

Enjoy the watermelons (and blueberries) this weekend. Hope to see you at the market!

A great time to buy local

We hope you have been enjoying your visits to the

Burlington County Farmers' Market.

**Vendors now offering a diverse selection of local produce**

Cranberry Hall Farm

Hunter's Farm

Durr Farm

Spinella Farm - Heirloom Varieties

1895 Organic Farm - Certified Organic

Darmo's Farm

The Spinella Farm family has such a unique variety of heirloom produce. Our last day is going to be a wet one. It had to happen sooner or later. What a great season we had! Thank you for coming out and supporting our local vendors.

If you love fresh broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, collards, eggplant and squash, don't miss out on our last day. Our farmers have so much more, including cut flowers, pumpkins, gourds and apple cider.

Rain or shine, we planned a big day on Saturday, with more vendors, live music and pumpkin carving and decorating. We'll have two different kinds of chefs on Saturday. Our regulars, Nick and Nick, will be preparing escarole soup and broccoli salad. And Curbside Chef will be visiting us, creating a variety of seasonal dishes.

We want to thank you again for your support this year. So many of you visited each week, spending time with the vendors, listening to the music, chatting with the chefs about their secret ingredients and enjoying the chicken and ribs. It's been a learning year for us and we'll be back next year, opening a little bit earlier and with some new ideas.

So make this Saturday your grocery day and eat fresh and in-season at the Burlington County Farmers' Market. It's a peach festival, so Durr Farm will be ready with their peaches, peaches, and more peaches.

Erlton always has wonderful stromboli and focaccia and Ernestine from Mama's Homemade Cookies will be baking her treats for Saturday. To compliment these vendors, The Village Bakery will be coming for one day with their delicious peach pies and frangipane peach bars. They will be here from 10 until noon, so be here early.

Of course - Chefs Nick and Nick always seem to collect a crowd around them. On Saturday, they will be preparing carmelized peaches with dandelion greens and champaigne vinegrette, along with peach chutney. Delicious as usual...

It's going to be a fantastic day - Rain or shine!!!
Hope to see you there.

More Blueberries and Peaches!

The weather has really been on our side! The Farmers Market will open at 8:30 am and run until 1:00 pm, rain of shine. The Farmers Market will run every Saturday through the middle of October.

Check back to this site for information related to vendors and programming that is currently being planned for market days.

As of Friday, April 6th, 16 applications from interested farmers and rural craft vendors have been received. We expect to have a complete list of vendors and the ag products they will be selling listed on this site by April 20th.

The format of the Farmers Market is an open-air tailgate market anchored by locally grown produce vendors. The purpose of the market is to provide the farmers an outlet to sell their products directly to the consumer.

The Farmers Market is being held at the Burlington County Community Agriculture Center in Moorestown Twp. This is a preserved, working farm that was aquired by the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders in 2005. Parking is available on-site. The site will be open to the public starting June 1st.
